Link Toilets

Link Toilets

Link toilets are a practical and cost-effective choice for bathroom renovations, rentals and replacement projects. Featuring a visible flush pipe between the cistern and pan, they offer a simple installation style and are easy to access for future servicing. Compared with fully back to wall designs, link toilets can be a suitable option when working with existing plumbing or budget-focused bathroom updates. Ideal for ensuites, family bathrooms, toilet rooms and investment properties. Explore link toilets at Melbourne Bathroom Shop.

How to Choose a Link Toilet

A link toilet uses a separate cistern and toilet pan connected by a visible flush pipe or link. This configuration can be particularly useful for bathroom renovations and replacement projects where the existing waste position does not suit a more compact back-to-wall toilet.

Before ordering, check the trap type, toilet set-out, water inlet and available projection. If you are comparing different toilet configurations, browse our Toilet collection.

Check the Waste Outlet First

The existing waste connection is one of the most important reasons to choose a link toilet. An S-trap connects through the floor, while a P-trap connects through the wall. Some older bathrooms may also have a side or skew waste connection.

The current MBS range includes an S-trap link toilet and a skew-compatible P-trap model, so check the exact plumbing layout before selecting the suite.

Measure the Toilet Set-Out

For an S-trap installation, measure from the finished wall to the centre of the floor waste. Link toilets can sometimes accommodate a wider set-out than more compact toilet designs, making them useful when replacing older suites without relocating the floor waste.

Always compare your measurement with the set-out range of the exact model. If you are unsure, have your plumber confirm the waste position before ordering.

Consider Skew and Side Connections

A skew toilet is designed for situations where the waste exits towards the left or right side rather than directly behind or beneath the pan. These layouts are more common in some older properties and can be expensive to alter unnecessarily.

If your existing toilet has a side connection, compare our Skew Toilets before deciding whether a link toilet is the most suitable replacement.

Link Toilet or Back to Wall Toilet?

A link toilet keeps the connecting section between the cistern and pan visible and can provide more flexibility around existing plumbing. A back-to-wall toilet creates a more streamlined appearance by sitting closely against the finished wall, but usually requires the plumbing position to suit the pan more precisely.

Compare our Back to Wall Toilets if your plumbing and bathroom layout allow a more concealed configuration.
