Choose a complete smart toilet if you are replacing the whole toilet and want the pan, flushing system and bidet functions planned as one setup. A smart bidet seat can be a more practical option when your existing toilet is suitable and you mainly want washing, heated-seat or remote-control functions. However, smart seats do not fit every toilet pan. Check the seat shape, fixing points, dimensions, water connection and electrical requirements before ordering. Most powered smart toilets and electronic bidet seats require an appropriate electrical connection for functions such as heated seating, washing controls, remote operation, drying or automatic features. The electrical requirements vary by model, so check the individual specifications before installation. If you are renovating, choose the toilet early so the electrician can position the electrical supply correctly before walls and tiles are completed. Do not assume that an existing bathroom power point is automatically suitable. Final electrical work should be completed in accordance with the product requirements by an appropriately qualified electrician.

Smart bidet functions require a suitable clean water connection, and some models may have minimum water-flow or pressure requirements for correct operation. Do not choose a smart toilet based only on whether water is available beside the existing pan. Check the exact product specification and have your plumber confirm that the water connection and available flow suit the model. This is particularly important for systems that rely directly on the water supply for washing or flushing. If your property has unusual or low water pressure, confirm compatibility before ordering rather than after installation.

It depends on the model and waste position. A P-trap connects through the wall, while an S-trap connects through the floor. The current MBS Smart Toilet range includes P-trap products as well as selected models compatible with S-trap installations using a supplied conversion bend. Available S-trap set-out ranges vary substantially between models, including ranges starting around 70–170mm and extending further on selected products. Measure from the finished wall to the waste centre and have your plumber confirm compatibility before ordering.

Yes. The current Melbourne Bathroom Shop range includes several raised-height back-to-wall smart toilet suites with smart remote bidet seats. A higher pan can make sitting down and standing up more comfortable for taller users or people who prefer a higher seating position. However, raised height alone does not mean a toilet meets specific accessible or care-bathroom requirements. If the project has accessibility requirements, the complete toilet dimensions, surrounding clearances and bathroom layout should be assessed rather than relying only on the product description.

Prioritise the functions you are likely to use every day. Depending on the model, smart toilets or bidet seats may offer integrated washing, remote control, heated seating, automatic flushing, shortcut controls and other comfort features. The current MBS range also includes selected auto-flush and touchless-flush configurations. More functions are not automatically better; compare ease of operation, cleaning, plumbing and electrical requirements as well as the feature list. If several people use the bathroom, simple controls and adjustable washing functions may be more useful than less frequently used extras.

Before ordering, confirm the toilet type, overall projection, S-trap or P-trap connection, set-out, water inlet position, water requirements, electrical supply and available bathroom clearance. Also check whether you are purchasing a complete smart toilet, a conventional toilet combined with a smart bidet seat, or an in-wall cistern package.
