Front & Half Return

Create a cleaner, more practical, and modern bathroom layout with Full Front & Half Return Shower Screens from Melbourne Bathroom Shop. Designed specifically for corner shower spaces, compact bathrooms, bath-over-shower setups, and narrow bathroom layouts, full front and half return shower screens provide excellent water containment while maximising usable bathroom space and maintaining an open contemporary appearance.

A Full Front & Half Return Shower Screen features a full-width front shower screen combined with a shorter side return panel, making it an ideal solution for bathrooms where a full return panel may not be practical due to limited space, vanity positioning, walkways, or bath installations. This configuration helps reduce water splash outside the shower area while still allowing easier bathroom access and improved movement around the room. Industry suppliers commonly position these screens as practical solutions for family bathrooms, bath installations, and modern corner shower layouts.

Available in front and half return sizes from 740–1500mm, at made to measure height, with custom options over 1500mm. Choose from 1950, 2000 or 2100mm heights, framed, semi-frameless or frameless designs, and hinged, sliding or pivot doors. Finishes include chrome, black, brushed nickel, gunmetal, brushed gold and more. Explore the range at Melbourne Bathroom Shop.

How to Choose a Front & Half Return Shower Screen

A front and half return shower screen is a practical option for a corner shower where you want side splash protection without installing a full-length return panel. The shorter return can leave more usable space around a vanity, bath or walkway while keeping the shower more enclosed than a simple walk-in panel.

Before ordering, focus on the finished dimensions, return-panel side, door clearance and how water will spray within the shower.

Is a Half Return Right for Your Bathroom?

A half return works well where a full return shower screen would make the bathroom feel too enclosed or interfere with nearby fixtures.

However, a shorter panel provides less side coverage. If your shower is shallow or the shower head points towards the open section, a full return may provide better splash control. For a more open design, compare walk-in shower screens.

Measure the Front and Return Carefully

Measure after tiling is completed wherever possible. Check the finished front width, required return depth and screen height, and measure the opening at more than one point because tiled walls may not be perfectly straight.

Also confirm whether the half return sits on the left or right when viewed from outside the shower.

For special-order or configurable screens, check all measurements carefully before ordering, as custom dimensions may not be eligible for change-of-mind return.

Check Door Clearance

A hinged or pivot door needs enough space to open without hitting a vanity, toilet, bath, towel rail or bathroom door.

Do not consider the shower opening alone. Mark the approximate door swing on the floor and make sure the surrounding bathroom still works comfortably.

If there is not enough swing clearance, compare other configurations in our shower screen collection.

Full Framed or Semi-Frameless?

A full framed shower screen provides more framing and can offer useful adjustment for slightly uneven finished walls.

A semi-frameless shower screen reduces visible framing for a cleaner appearance while retaining structural channels or supports.

Choose according to your wall condition, required adjustment, preferred appearance and budget rather than glass thickness alone.

Consider Splash and Installation Conditions

Water containment depends on more than the glass size. Shower depth, shower-head position, spray direction, floor fall and drainage all affect how much water reaches the open area.

Also confirm whether the screen will sit on a tiled floor, shower base or hob and whether the selected model suits that installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When should I choose a front and half return shower screen?

A front and half return shower screen works well for a corner shower where a full side panel would take up too much space or interfere with a vanity, bath, walkway or other bathroom fixture. The shorter return panel helps control splash while keeping more of the bathroom open and accessible. If you have enough room and water containment is the main priority, compare a front and full return shower screen. For a completely open-entry layout, consider a walk-in shower screen. You can also compare all layouts in the shower screen collection.

2. How should I measure for a front and half return shower screen?

Measure the finished tiled dimensions wherever possible. Check the front opening separately from the half-return side, and measure at more than one height because tiled walls may not be perfectly straight. Also confirm the screen height, door-opening clearance and the exact position where the shorter return panel will finish. Nearby vanities, toilets, baths and doorways should be included in your planning. If your shower is between three walls rather than in a corner, a wall-to-wall shower screen may be more suitable. Browse the main shower screen range if you are still comparing layouts.

3. Which side should the half return panel be installed on?

The half return should normally sit on the side where it provides useful splash protection without blocking movement around the bathroom. Consider the shower-head position, direction of water spray, vanity or bath location and the way you enter the shower. Before ordering, confirm whether the return needs to be on the left or right when viewed from outside the shower. Do not decide based only on a product image, as bathroom layouts vary. If both sides can accommodate a full panel, compare the front and full return range. For more open layouts, also review walk-in shower screens.

4. How much clearance do I need for a hinged front and half return screen?

A hinged door needs enough clear space to operate without hitting a vanity, toilet, towel rail, bath or bathroom door. Measure the available space outside the shower as well as the shower opening itself. The current MBS Front & Half Return collection includes hinged-door configurations, so door swing should be checked before placing the order. If the bathroom is too tight for a hinged arrangement, compare other configurations in the shower screen collection. A wall-to-wall screen may also provide a different layout option where three walls already surround the shower.

5. Full framed or semi-frameless: which is better for a half return screen?

A full framed shower screen provides more perimeter framing and can offer useful adjustment where finished walls are not perfectly straight. A semi-frameless shower screen reduces visible framing for a cleaner appearance while still retaining structural channels or supports. The current Front & Half Return range includes both 6mm framed and selected 10mm semi-frameless options. Choose according to the finished opening, required adjustment, preferred appearance and budget rather than assuming thicker glass or less framing automatically makes one option better.

6. Will a half return panel provide enough splash protection?

A half return panel can reduce splash while keeping the bathroom more open, but it generally provides less side coverage than a full return panel. Splash control also depends on the length of the return, shower-head location, spray direction, shower depth, floor fall and drainage. If the shower is shallow or the shower head sprays toward the open side, a larger enclosure may be more suitable. Compare a front and full return shower screen when maximum side coverage is important. Alternatively, review the wider shower screen range before deciding on the final configuration.

7. What should I confirm before ordering a front and half return shower screen?

Before ordering, confirm the finished front width, half-return size, screen height, return-panel side, door swing, glass/frame style and finish. Also check whether the screen will be installed on a tiled floor or shower base and whether the selected model suits that installation. This is particularly important for made-to-size or special-order products: the current MBS collection specifically notes that incorrect customer-supplied sizes on selected special-order screens are not eligible for return or exchange. If you are unsure about the layout, compare the front and full return range and main shower screen collection before ordering.
