Sinks with Drainer

Choose a single bowl with drainer if you want one larger uninterrupted washing area for pots, pans and trays while still having dedicated drying space. A double bowl with drainer gives you separate areas for washing, rinsing or soaking, which can be useful in busy family kitchens. However, it generally requires more cabinet and benchtop space. Check whether you need the drainer on the left or right according to your dishwasher position, food-preparation area and how you naturally work at the sink. Some current MBS models are offered in specific left- or right-hand configurations, so do not assume every sink can simply be reversed during installation. Before ordering, confirm the bowl and drainer orientation in the product title, drawings or specifications. Marking the proposed sink layout on the benchtop can also help you visualise which orientation will be more practical.

Start with the internal width of the base cabinet and compare it with the sink manufacturer's minimum cabinet requirements. A sink with drainer usually has a larger overall footprint than a bowl-only sink, but the drainer may extend over adjacent cabinet or benchtop space depending on the design. Also allow enough room underneath for the bowl, waste, plumbing, clips and any bins or drawers. Do not choose based only on the sink's overall width. A topmount sink sits over the benchtop cut-out and is often a straightforward choice for new kitchens or replacement projects. An undermount sink is installed beneath the benchtop and can create a cleaner transition from the bench into the sink. Selected sinks in the current MBS range support undermount installation, while many others are designed primarily for topmount use. A tap landing provides a dedicated area on the sink for mounting the mixer, which can be useful when you prefer the tapware fixed directly to the sink rather than through the benchtop. The current Sinks with Drainer collection includes selected models with tap landings, while other sinks have no tap hole or use a different configuration. Decide on the sink mixer position before the benchtop is cut. Also check whether the selected sink has a pre-cut tap hole, optional hole position or no tap hole at all.

Stainless steel is a versatile choice for kitchens and laundries because it works with many benchtops, appliances and tapware finishes. Granite sinks provide a more solid coloured appearance, while selected models in the current MBS range are available in finishes including black, white, grey, gunmetal and brass tones. Consider how the sink will coordinate with your benchtop and mixer, but also think about maintenance and how heavily the sink will be used. Before ordering, confirm the overall dimensions, bowl size and depth, minimum cabinet width, drainer orientation, mounting method, tap-hole arrangement, benchtop material and waste position. If replacing an existing sink, compare the new manufacturer's cut-out dimensions instead of assuming a similar-sized sink will fit the existing opening. Also check whether plumbing, bins or drawers underneath could interfere with the bowl or wastes.
