Pivot / Hinged Door

A pivot or hinged shower screen is a good choice when you want a generous, direct shower entry and have enough space for the door to swing comfortably. These doors work particularly well in medium to larger bathrooms where a vanity, toilet or bathroom door will not obstruct the opening. They are available for both wall-to-wall shower screens and front & return shower screens. If floor space outside the shower is limited, a sliding shower screen may be more practical because it does not require swing clearance.

Both designs swing open, but the way the door is supported can differ. A pivot door normally rotates around pivot points positioned at the top and bottom, while a hinged door uses dedicated hinges connected to a wall, frame or fixed glass panel depending on the design. The practical differences can include door position, opening width, hardware appearance and installation requirements. Rather than choosing by the name alone, compare the complete screen configuration, usable entry and required clearance. Measure the door swing as well as the shower opening. The door should be able to operate without hitting a vanity, toilet, bath, towel rail or bathroom door. Also check the actual usable entry width shown in the individual product specification, because two screens with similar overall widths may have different door openings. Marking the approximate swing area on the floor before ordering can help identify conflicts. If your bathroom is too tight for a swinging door, compare sliding shower screens or corner-entry shower screens.

Measure the finished tiled opening after tiling is completed wherever possible. For a wall-to-wall screen, measure near the bottom, middle and top. For a corner enclosure, measure the front and return sides separately. Also confirm screen height, door-opening direction and nearby fixture clearance. Do not choose by nominal size alone; compare your measurements with the product’s stated adjustment range. A full framed shower screen provides more perimeter framing and can offer useful adjustment for typical renovation conditions. A semi-frameless shower screen reduces visible framing while retaining channels or structural support. A frameless shower screen creates the most minimal appearance but generally requires more accurate measurements and suitable fixing conditions. Minor wall variation is common. Selected framed and semi-frameless pivot screens use adjustable wall channels that can accommodate limited variation, but every model has its own adjustment range. For example, selected MBS semi-frameless pivot screens include adjustable wall channels specifically to assist with minor wall variation. Measure the opening at several heights and compare the smallest and largest measurements with the product specification. If the wall variation is significant, a standard screen should not be forced to fit. Consider custom-size shower screens or an adjustable framed shower screen.

Before ordering, confirm the finished opening dimensions, screen height, usable door opening, door swing, frame style, glass configuration and hardware finish.
