Start with the internal width of the base cabinet and the available benchtop space. Check the overall sink dimensions, bowl width and depth, and allow enough space underneath for the waste, plumbing, mounting hardware, bins or drawers. A deeper or larger bowl can be useful for pots and trays, but it will take up more cabinet space. Do not choose by the external sink size alone. A single bowl gives you one large uninterrupted washing area and can be practical for oversized cookware, baking trays and everyday kitchen use. Many undermount sinks use a mixer mounted directly through the benchtop, so sufficient space is needed behind or beside the bowl. The spout should reach comfortably into the bowl without sitting so far forward that it causes excessive splash. Pull-out or pull-down mixers can also be useful for rinsing large cookware.
